ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
ACADEMICSAt Success Work Academy, we specialize in meeting the diverse needs of all children by creating an inclusive environment where every student can thrive and see themselves reflected in the stories, projects, and learning experiences we provide. Our integrated English Language Arts program supports neurodivergent learners and empowers all students to excel within grade-level curriculum. With ongoing support, interventions, and a spiraled curriculum, we prepare students for college, careers, and lifelong learning.
Kindergarten Our Kindergarten students begin their literacy journey by learning the alphabet and understanding the basic features of letters and words. They will explore sounds, syllables, and the relationships between letters and sounds to build a strong foundation for reading and comprehension. Through engaging stories and informational texts, students will develop the skills to ask questions, discuss main events, and identify key details. They’ll express their ideas by drawing, speaking, and writing simple words or phrases, learning to communicate their thoughts confidently. First Grade In first grade, students build on their foundational skills and start developing essential reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. They will read stories, articles, and informational texts, engaging in discussions by listening and responding to others’ ideas. By writing to describe events, provide information, or share opinions, students will practice forming sentences that are clear and descriptive. With a growing vocabulary, they’ll learn to convey their ideas effectively across a range of topics. Second Grade Second graders expand their reading fluency and comprehension through a variety of texts. They will practice discussing and writing about what they read, both individually and in collaborative discussions. Our focus on building connections with others’ ideas helps students gain confidence in group settings. Students will strengthen their writing skills by revising and editing their work, whether they’re describing events, sharing opinions, or presenting information on a topic of interest. Third Grade In third grade, students engage in deeper exploration of literature, science, social studies, and informational texts. Through guided discussions, students develop their critical thinking by asking questions, sharing ideas, and building on the thoughts of others. They also begin to gather information from books, articles, and online sources, which they’ll use to construct research and opinion papers over extended time periods. In writing, students focus on organizing and supporting their ideas with details, facts, and reasons, enhancing their ability to communicate thoughtfully and persuasively. Fourth Grade Our fourth graders continue to strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills as they tackle more complex texts and expand their vocabulary. In collaborative discussions, students will articulate their understanding with evidence and details from readings, preparing them to clearly explain and support their ideas. By learning to take notes and organize information, students build skills for research, and their writing assignments focus on developing topics with detailed information and logical organization. Fifth Grade Fifth-grade students are challenged with advanced literature, articles, and texts, continuing to grow their vocabulary and comprehension. They practice summarizing information and using specific evidence to support their thoughts during discussions. Through regular writing assignments, students develop the skills to gather, interpret, and present information clearly. As they progress, they create research papers and opinion pieces, building a foundation for structured and thoughtful communication skills that will serve them in future academic and professional settings. At Success Work Academy, we are committed to cultivating confident, knowledgeable, and thoughtful learners through a tailored approach that values each child’s strengths, needs, and individuality. |
